Choosing The Best Workout Without Weights [Well, Best For Me Anyway]
I'm coming to the end of my 2nd P90X round and I'm ready to put down the dumbbells and use my body weight to get into shape...
Next! I'm ready for something new- a workout without weights. For the last 5 plus months I've been doing P90X and the size of weights I use has increased from 5 - 8lb weights to 15-20 lb weights during my workouts. Pretty good hugh?
I'm really proud of the definition in my arms, legs, and chest. Although, I went down a bra size- that was not a goal (smile). But, the definition in my chest area looks awesome, so no regrets there.
What I'm considering
Next week I will finish up my second round of P90X and I'm wanting to start something a bit different. A workout without weights. I've been researching and there are several options, but I've narrowed it down to three:
Insanity by Beachbody
Basically, these are gymnastic type exercise movements that don't require any weights or machines (which is what I want). And from the pictures that I've seen of people who do Calisthenics, their muscle tone is off the charts. Now I don't want to be too muscular, that's not my goal. I want tone with femininity in tact. I've been watching videos and it looks kind of difficult, but I've loved gymnastics since I was a kid and I think I can swing it [get it? swing it? gymanstics?].
Okay, I digress. There's also going to be a Calisthenics learning curve. I'd be getting into something totally new and I don't know that I'm ready for that. My body and my brain need a rest. Plus I will need the space to do the Calisthenic workouts. P90X doesn't take much space (my living room is pretty small).
Insanity, By Beachbody
I've been avoiding this workout since forever. The results people get are amazing, but there's just something about Shaun T yelling and screaming at me that does not appeal to me (smile). On the flip side, I could see great results in just 60 days and maybe this last bit of ab and hip toning that I need could be achieved. I don't know though. I really have to think about this one. I might need a Beach body break for a bit. Read more about Insanity
Sprinting In Intervals
Using the theory of "short intense workouts". I would be sprinting 30 seconds, recovering 1 and half to two minutes and do it again for eight intervals (20-25 minutes total). I've sort of already been trying this one for the past week. The issue I have with running is that my knees don't always cooperate and I end up having to ice them down with a bag of frozen veggies. But over all I think the idea is great. I've read several articles about short intense workouts and it's supposed to really be a great way to burn fat. As a matter of fact the interval training is one of the reasons "Insanity" works so well.
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
Well, I have two weeks to figure this out. Actually, a little more than that. My P90X recovery week is next week. After that I plan to chill, walk away the pounds with Leslie Sansone and maybe do a little Brazil Butt Lift. After a few weeks of chilling, I will start a new program. I'm leaning toward interval workouts but we will see. I promise you will be the first to know (smile).
Please, share your thoughts and experiences
If you have tried any of the things I mentioned above please let me know what worked for you. I've love to hear about your experience and maybe that will help me make my decision.
