In the early days, I had a really hard time, fitting workout routines into my schedule. At the time I was married, going to college, working full time, and caring for my son.

There are plenty of women out there who can relate to my story. For women, the balancing act between career, family, and life in general, can be a difficult one. Let alone adding workout routines of any kind to the equation.

Sometimes trying to balance all of the above takes a toll on our health and the last thing we feel like doing is working out. Besides, who has time right? I understand how working out can become just another chore. But ladies, we have to get it in.

Workout routines not only benefit us by shaping our bodies and helping us to look our best, but did you also know that exercising can ease depression; ward off colon cancer; and enhance our immune systems?

Still not interested? Okay, what about the dreaded monthly visitor. No, I'm not talking about your mother-in-law (smile). I'm talking about your menstrual cycle. Workout routines reduce premenstrual stress and cramps. This is one of the benefits I've noticed personally-whew!

PMDD is a more severe form of PMS, and exercise can do wonders to ease symptoms.

And for that future mom, studies have shown that women who do regular workouts, get back to their original figures must faster after delivery! But, please check with your doctor before doing any type of exercise or workout program.

It used to be that children didn't need workout routines because they played so much that they were naturally active. But, times have changed and we all know that childhood obesity has become a serious issue.

Now more than ever, childhood and adolescence are the right time to develop healthy exercise habits our young women. Workout programs for children are super popular and a simple internet search will yield several options.

This is the time in a woman's life when we're most likely to gain those extra pounds. Our hormones have changed; our lean muscle has decreased; and for some of us our metabolism has slowed to a snail's pace.

The good news is women who do regular workouts are leaner, thinner, and have higher metabolism than ladies who are more sedentary (couch potato-like).

For those of us in the middle-age bracket many health concerns begin to surface like, high blood pressure, diabetes, depression, arthritis and osteoporosis. All of which can be reduced with regular exercise.

Another thing that my doctor warned me about was the strength of my bones as I begin to age. Apparently, the density of women's bones could be decline during this stage in life and more so after menopause.

Simple workout routines like jogging, brisk walking or active exercise routines along with proper supplementation can help fight bone loss.

I remember the first time I saw an elderly lady working out. I thought wow! That's going to be me one day. I'm going to be “one hot grandma” when I get older. But aside from being a hot grandma, I'm also aware that working out will help increase my muscle strength, flexibility, and improve my stamina. Not to mention I will be reducing the likelihood of developing certain diseases.

Once you've made your mind to begin workouts, just do it. It is never too late to start. At first, you may want to start simple with walking exercises. Over time, if your health allows, you can increase the level or intensity of your workouts. Incorporate healthy eating habits and you're on your way to getting fit, healthy, and staying that way.

The best way to burn calories and lose fat is to do aerobic exercise. Don't just reduce your food intake and think that quick weight loss is the best way to go. It's not and even though you will lose weight, you could also negatively affect your health. Aerobic exercises are workout routines for women because cardio is good for your heart and is a safe effective way to lose weight and get healthy.

There are many abdominal workouts that can be done, but you need to find the ones that you like. A program like Ab Ripper X may be too much for you to start with. Start with some basic reverse crunches. But as you get stronger increase your level a bit. You can also try different exercise machines and equipment as well to work your abs.

I didn't fully understand core workouts until I did P90X. I know you're probably tired of hearing about P90X, but I've learned a lot from it because there are so many types of workout routines in the program. Core workouts are important and make your torso stronger and more balanced. The core of your body includes your abs, hips, and lower back. In Walk Away The Pounds, Winsor Pilates, Ab Ripper X, and Donna Richardson's 3 Day program the trainers all emphasize the importance of working your core.

Combine nutrition, aerobics, core training, strength and flexibility exercises (like yoga) and you will be well on your way to your best health.

Finding time to work out can be difficult, but we have to recognize the importance of our own health. When we exercise regularly we are more like to be at our best emotionally and mentally as well as physically. Wellness in all of these areas translates to a more productive and healthy family, career, and social life as well.
