During my time as a Program Specialist in the Nutrition Division, I served on the Obesity Prevention Committee. One of the pushes for School Fitness Programs.Which was kind of sad, because when I was in school, physical education was a part of the curriculum. I didn't appreciate it then, but looking back, I see that we were really blessed that someone recognized the value of children being physically active.

Though it is common knowledge that good eating habits and regular physical activity are critical for maintaining a healthy weight, still "less than 25% of adolescents eat enough fruits and vegetables each day".

Since this post is on the subject of teen weight loss tips, statistics have also shown that "sixty-four percent of high school students don't meet currently recommended levels of physical activity".

We all know that the problem exists, but for some reason, it seems to continue to grow. Is it because of what kids and teens eat at home, school, in child care, at the mall, or all of the above? Who knows. But whatever the cause, CDC reports the number of obese children has tripled in the last 30 years.

That's why it's so wonderful when I see people taking personal responsibility for their own health and fitness. And it really excites me when I hear stories like Cindy Johnson's. She is a Beachbody Diamond Coach out of Louisana implementing Fitness Programs in her area with the Girl Scouts! Helping hundreds of girls get fit and healthy by teaching them principles that will hopefully filter into the choices they make as teens and adults.

Helpful Tips For Teen Weight Loss

  • Talk to your doctor about your weight loss tips and share your concerns and goals for weight loss. Ask your doctor's advice on supplementation and physical activity requirements suitable for your particular circumstances.


  • Don't spend time focusing on what you did wrong (e.g. eating wrong foods, not exercising, bad habits). What's Done Is Done. Focus time and energy on developing a positive attitude about yourself and new journey.


  • Put a plan in place for daily physical activity. Get a workout dvd. Find a friend to walk with at least 30 minutes per day. Make it fun by inviting friends. When I walk with friends we spend so much time laughing and talking we hardly notice the time flying by.


  • If you're not cooking your own meals, share your desire to eat healthier with the person who is preparing meals.


  • Don't be so hard on yourself. Set attainable goals. Be realistic. Losing one pound per week is a perfectly attainable goal and it's healthy and safe way to lose and sustain weightloss long term.


  • Make your health a priority and create a healthy lifestyle. Eat more fruits and veggies as opposed to cookies and chips. Carry meal bars with you if you're going to be out all day. Make regular physical activity a part of your day.


  • Meet new friends. If you are a people person, do a search online for fitness clubs, or better yet, start your own. Surround yourself with like-minded people who will support your goals and want to see you succeed. I can't emphasise enough the importance of surrounding yourself with positive people.


  • Love yourself! Know that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. There's only one you. You're great and the healthier you become, the more beautiful you will become inside and out.
Is there such a thing as Easy weightloss for teens? No.

But then again, losing weight isn't easy at any age. It takes committment, but the tips above will help you get off to a great start.
